The highly anticipated latest and greatest version of Odoo was released on October 5th. This new version has many useful features, integrations and additions. The focus was on improvements to the MRP (master production schedule) module. Added features include PLM (product lifecycle management), Maintenance, and Quality Management. Two brand new modules were also added, Odoo Help Desk and Odoo Studio.

Previous version of Odoo were known to have limitations in its product manufacturing modules. Version 10 comes with a versatile set of features in the manufacturing process which makes it standout from its predecessors.

The biggest change that Odoo has made in the manufacturing module is the introduction of a ‘Master Production Schedule’. This is an optional feature that can be activated or deactivated at any time. This feature automatically generates supplies and/or production orders based on the current inventory levels, customer orders, and sales forecasts.

Also added was the ‘Unbuild Orders’ feature. This is the reverse of the manufacturing process in which the manufactured product with a Bill of Material is dismantled to its original components. The quantity of the original unbuilt product is deducted from its stock location and the component parts are returned to the inventory.

Other features present in version 10 that aren’t specific to manufacturing are:

Multi-company switching – A smooth multi-company switcher has been introduced on the menu bar by default, so users no longer have to rely on 3rd party apps for this feature. Third party apps can be buggy and slow, often not working as expected. This eliminates these issues.

Keyboard navigation – New shortcuts for quick menu access, document saving, etc. are now in the key binding list.

File import – The new file import feature was introduced to auto-detect certain fields and data formats present in csv files. It also filters the proposed field based on the csv field values, which makes for faster importing with less errors.

Quick Creation – Previously when a new record needed to be created while in Kanban views for CRM, projects, or recruitment pressing the ‘Create’ button would cause the view to change to a form view. This was a major inconvenience for users as they would frequently lose track of their actions. Now users can quickly create new records without leaving the Kanban view.
